What is Love the Game?

The Love the Game Sporting Club Program is an initiative of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation. The program aims to reduce the exposure of young people to sports betting promotions and to counter the normalisation of betting on sport.

Young people have never known a time when betting wasn’t a part of sport. Prolific advertising makes it seem like sports betting is a normal activity, that everyone is doing it and that everybody wins. When something is normal, it can feel like there is no risk, which is a concern to parents, especially, as well as the broader community.

The Foundation partners with more than 650 community and professional sporting clubs, which stand united against sports betting sponsorship in order to reduce young people’s exposure to gambling advertising.

They agree that the benefits of sport include developing physical skills, leadership ability, strategic thinking, teamwork and just having fun, and that kids should be encouraged to love the game, not the odds.
